In commemoration of Anzac Day, we decided to visit Tinui. In 1916, Tinui held the world's first formal celebration of Anzac Day. The Anzac Cross was erected on the summit of Mt. Maunsell in memorial of the brave men who gave their lives in the war. The Tinui Anzac Walkway is only accessible between 1st Nov and 25th Apr each year. The track takes us about 3 hours (return) passing through exotic and native forest over Tinui Forest Park and part of a private farm. Upon reaching the peak, The Anzac Cross is seen overlooking the village from the summit.
